How to Install TAOM (Tales from the Age of Men) for Bannerlord 1.2.12
This guide follows the public installation instructions posted on the TAOM NexusMods page. It covers the manual “Modules” install, required dependency mods, DLL unblocking, and the recommended load order.
Before you start (important notes)
- The TAOM NexusMods page states the newest version listed there is for Bannerlord 1.2.12.
- The same page states the mod will not work on the Xbox Game Pass version of Bannerlord.
Option A: Install using the official TAOM Launcher (recommended)
TAOM also provides an official launcher intended to simplify installation and keep updates consistent. The launcher page highlights automatic updates (delta patching), multiple channels (including switching to Patreon builds), and one-click launch.
If you prefer a plug-and-play setup and easier updates, start with the launcher first.
Option B: Manual install (Modules folder) – step by step
- Delete any old TAOM files from previous versions (if you have them).
- Download the latest TAOM release file.
- Extract the downloaded archive (for example with WinRAR / 7zip).
- Open your Bannerlord “Modules” folder. The Nexus page provides this example path:
Windows (C:) > Program Files (x86) > Steam > steamapps > common > Mount & Blade II Bannerlord > Modules
(Use the drive where your game is installed.) - Open the extracted TAOM folder, select the files inside it, and drag-and-drop them into the “Modules” folder.
Required dependency mods (from Nexus)
The TAOM NexusMods page lists these requirements:
- Harmony
- Better Exception Window
- ButterLib
- UIExtenderEx
The Nexus installation instructions also mention installing Mod Configuration Menu v5 as part of the dependency setup.
Install each dependency mod the same way (download → extract → put into Modules).
Unblock DLL files (Windows)
The Nexus instructions include a step to unblock DLL files manually (for example using PowerShell or another method). It notes that if PowerShell returns a blank line, it was done correctly.
Recommended load order (from Nexus)
The Nexus instructions provide a recommended load order. It starts with:
- Harmony
- BetterExceptionWindow
- ButterLib
- UIExtenderEx
- Mod Configuration Menu v5
Then the base game modules (Native, Sandbox Core, Sandbox, StoryMode, CustomBattle, Birth and Aging Options), followed by TAOM modules such as LOTR_Map, Base_Race, LOTRAOM_Armory, Alliance.Wargs, BannerColorPersistence with BannerPaste, and LOTRAOM.

Open the Bannerlord launcher, verify the load order, press Play, and test campaign + custom battle.
